The top 2 reasons your clients need you now

Imagine that you are not a financial advisor and you have no clients. Imagine you’re someone with a different job or occupation, with a different perspective on money. You focus only on rate of return, rather the reality of meeting financial goals and helping your clients find financial satisfaction.

Stop right here! The dream is over.

You’re a financial advisor with the awesome ability to positively influence your client’s lives and help them achieve their goals.

With the volatility we’ve experienced in the world markets in the last few years, many clients are beginning to ask, ” Is what I’m doing going to work tomorrow?”

Well, the world is certainly changing and flexibility becomes increasingly important to your client’s future success. This is where your client needs you more than ever before. The magic comes in the relationship that you can nurture with your clients simply by listening to what they want and need, then underpromising and overperforming.

“Would you please show me the path”

How would you like to be the one who shows your client the path to realizing their goals? What would that path look like? Like Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz was shown the path, ” Follow the yellowbrick road”, what clients are constantly telling their advisors is, “show me the path to achieve my goals.” Show me “how to” successfully move from where I am today to where I want to be down the road. Every financial goal your clients will ultimately achieve depends on the day to day small steps they take under your guidance. Clients simply want relief from worry. They are desperately seeking a clear, disciplined and decisive plan of action.

Our biggest challenge as advisors is to help clients examine their dreams and goals carefully to find the right path suitable for them. Think about it. Isn’t your role awesome. Every single day your client has 24 hours to move forward along their path toward achieving their dreams and goals. It is simply up to you to help them make a little progress each day. What an opportunity!

Time Blocking At Cambridge Ignite 2014

Posted on 08.06.14 |

cambridge_ignite Mike Sciortino‘s presentation tomorrow at #CambridgeIgnite conference in Chicago is called  “Time Blocking – Your Path to Success”.

Mike’s quick hint: It’s really all about the basic blocking and tackling.

To illustrate, what do Bill Belichick and Nick Saban have in common? Championships? Yes. Rings? Yes. But how did they reach the pinnacles of their profession? By executing a well thought out Game Plan. Why did a Game Plan work? It kept the players focused, laid out the path to success and eliminated distractions. Will a Game Plan work for you? Absolutely! This helps you focus on your best talents and strengths.

…Tips for successful seminar selling

Luck is where preparation and opportunity intersect. The sky’s the limit…really! So why not adequately prepare? Have you ever attended a Broadway play? If so, you know the quality of these productions. What you may not have realized is the hours and hours of preparation and practice that go into the production. This is a proven formula for success.

Rehearsing-in-mirror

Pro Tip: Rehearse in front of the mirror
to improve your technique

In our business, those who successfully market using seminars prepare as well. The best I have seen have a way of conveying enthusiasm and passion for their topic. I remember early on in my career asking a successful advisor how he became such an accomplished speaker. His formula was simple. Prior to the evening of the seminar, it was not uncommon for him to deliver that presentation numerous times to an audience of one, his mirror. That enabled him to work out the proper pauses, correct voice inflections and practice necessary mannerisms to connect with his audience.

Choose to Be Extraordinary

As Robert Louis Stevenson once said, “To become what we are capable of becoming is the only end in life.”

Once you begin to understand and realize what you are capable of, the whole world changes. Sure, we all want our life to matter but how can we seize this amazing opportunity, this one-of-a-kind lifetime, this once-in-history opportunity to be extraordinary? Let’s begin with the following question.

When was the last time you sat down and really thought about how you can design an extraordinary life for you and your family? It might be quite different than what you envisioned years ago. With life’s normal cycles, it probably is.

When I look at the lives of extraordinary people, I find that most had a way of saying no to the unimportant so they could say yes to the important, whatever that was in their lives. They passionately believe that wherever they are now, they can get better. I also found that the earlier in life that they began playing to their strengths, the more opportunity they had to develop and enjoy their unique abilities.

The Choice of Action

Let’s begin by looking at some advice from John Wesley…

Do all the good you can,
By all the means you can,
In all the ways you can,
To all the people you can,
For as long as you ever can.

Wow, that’s a lot of action! If you do this, what you will accomplish will amaze you. Ultimately, fulfillment in life comes from making a difference in other people’s lives. How? By helping people (in this case, your clients) make positive changes in their lives. Holding back and giving less than our best effort is never better than action. We as advisors are called to take action right now.

What do You Think?

Posted on 05.09.14 |

You’ve probably heard the saying, “it’s all in how you think about a situation.” That mindset plays such an important role in success. Here are a few great examples of the power of the right mindset:

“We take hamburgers more seriously than anyone else.” – Ray Kroc, founder of McDonald’s

“Champions take responsibility. When the ball is coming over the net, you can be sure I want the ball.” – Billie Jean King

“You must do the thing you think you cannot do.” – Eleanor Roosevelt

Yes, the caliber of information that we daily and consistently and repeatedly put into our brain is what actually programs our mind where to FOCUS.

Programming your thinking is vital. Why? Because what you think precedes every action. Your Brainmindset must literally be seeded every day with inspiring and uplifting thoughts.

How can we do this?

1) Wake up earlier. It’s really not as bad as you think. Allow yourself some quiet time to read something that will inspire you.

2) Script your day as if it has already happened. Yes, I know sometimes distractions occur but you will certainly accomplish more that day if it is well planned. Walt Disney was famous for this. He called it a script that your mind can follow. The body and your daily actions follow your mind.

3) Listen to morning motivational music or life enriching CDs on your drive to work.

Steve Jobs, the founder of Apple, did one thing every morning to keep him on track and focused. In his commencement address at Stanford University, he revealed that he looked in the mirror every single morning and he asked himself this very important question.

” If I died tonight, will I be glad that I did what I am planning to do today?”

Q: What’s your answer?

By the way, if the answer is no, then maybe you should consider changing the plan! – Mike Sciortino

Easy Tips to Prepare for a Client Meeting

Every day you have the opportunity to do something great for your clients. Most successful advisors I know are always trying to find that extraordinary breakthrough that allows them to serve their clients better. Sometimes that breakthrough is simply the broad perspective and experience you offer to your clients as you guide them to reach prudent decisions. Let’s face it, in any given set of circumstances your clients face, their own view or perspective will determine and direct their response unless you are there to guide them. Therefore, it is vital that you allow them to share with you their core concerns, needs and feelings at your client meeting.

Here are some thoughts to consider as you prepare for the meeting:

advisor and clients

  • What investment experience does your client have?
  • Have they worked with a financial advisor before?
  • What have they liked most and least about past investments they have made?
  • What problems do they have that you can help them solve?
  • What needs do they currently have?
  • What solutions can you offer?
  • What are their hopes and fears?
  • What questions will they have?
  • What do they already think or know about what you will discuss?
  • Who is the driving force behind a decision?
  • What outcome would they like to see?
  • How easy will it be for them to implement and stick to your plan?

This presentation does not discuss, directly or indirectly, the amount of the profits or losses, realized or unrealized, by any CMG client from any specific funds or securities. Please note: In the event that CMG references performance results for an actual CMG portfolio, the results are reported net of advisory fees and inclusive of dividends. The performance referenced is that as determined and/or provided directly by the referenced funds and/or publishers, have not been independently verified, and do not reflect the performance of any specific CMG client. CMG clients may have experienced materially different performance based upon various factors during the corresponding time periods.
Hypothetical Presentations: To the extent that any portion of the content reflects hypothetical results that were achieved by means of the retroactive application of a back-tested model, such results have inherent limitations, including: (1) the model results do not reflect the results of actual trading using client assets, but were achieved by means of the retroactive application of the referenced models, certain aspects of which may have been designed with the benefit of hindsight; (2) back-tested performance may not reflect the impact that any material market or economic factors might have had on the adviser’s use of the model if the model had been used during the period to actually mange client assets; and, (3) CMG’s clients may have experienced investment results during the corresponding time periods that were materially different from those portrayed in the model. Please Also Note: Past performance may not be indicative of future results. Therefore, no current or prospective client should assume that future performance will be profitable, or equal to any corresponding historical index. (i.e. S&P 500 Total Return or Dow Jones Wilshire U.S. 5000 Total Market Index) is also disclosed. For example, the S&P 500 Composite Total Return Index (the “S&P”) is a market capitalization-weighted index of 500 widely held stocks often used as a proxy for the stock market. Standard & Poor’s chooses the member companies for the S&P based on market size, liquidity, and industry group representation. Included are the common stocks of industrial, financial, utility, and transportation companies. The historical performance results of the S&P (and those of or all indices) and the model results do not reflect the deduction of transaction and custodial charges, nor the deduction of an investment management fee, the incurrence of which would have the effect of decreasing indicated historical performance results. For example, the deduction combined annual advisory and transaction fees of 1.00% over a 10 year period would decrease a 10% gross return to an 8.9% net return. The S&P is not an index into which an investor can directly invest. The historical S&P performance results (and those of all other indices) are provided exclusively for comparison purposes only, so as to provide general comparative information to assist an individual in determining whether the performance of a specific portfolio or model meets, or continues to meet, his/her investment objective(s). A corresponding description of the other comparative indices, are available from CMG upon request. It should not be assumed that any CMG holdings will correspond directly to any such comparative index. The model and indices performance results do not reflect the impact of taxes. CMG portfolios may be more or less volatile than the reflective indices and/or models.
In the event that there has been a change in an individual's investment objective or financial situation, he/she is encouraged to consult with his/her investment professionals.
